It became known that in March of 2016, 28-year-old Kambe gave the girl he had a date with a fake 10,000 yen banknote (about $ 95), after meeting her at a hotel in the Japanese city of Gifu, Japan Today reported.
The victim realized that she was paid with counterfeit cash only after she failed to buy medication at a pharmacy in Nagoya.
The police recently arrested the monk and launched an investigation into the case.
Officers believe that the man was producing banknotes in a Buddhist temple in Ogaki by himself. Meanwhile they said they found three more counterfeit 10,000 yen banknotes in Gifu and Aichi prefectures.
Whether the girl was punished for her "work" remains unknown.
